Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is popularly known for its beneficial herbal and medicinal applications. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family. It is also used for decorative purposes and can be grown with ease both indoors and outdoors. It has distinctive leaves that are thick and fleshy and can range from green to grey-green in color.
The aloe vera plant is about 1 to 2 ft. tall with prickly and bitter leaves. Its leaves hold a gooey translucent gel, which is known to be extremely bitter, and extensively used for its unbelievable healing properties. This translucent gel consists of around 96% water, a type of protein, which contains 18 amino acids, Vitamin A, B, C and E along with some organic and inorganic compounds. Aloe vera has sap in the form of a yellow-colored liquid stuck to the skin of the plant from the inside. Powdered aloe that is obtained from drying and purifying is also used as a laxative.
It can be found as an ingredient in many consumer products including beverages, skin lotion, cosmetics, or ointments for minor burns and sunburns.
